What do you know about light? Explain in 3 minutes.
3
What is Light?
Light is a form of energy that enables us to see. Our eyes have to receive light in order to see clearly. We cannot see if there is no light.

Look at the cavefish and the lanternfish above the slide. What are the difference between cavefish and lanternfish can you state?
7
Difference between cavefish and lanternfish
Cavefish lives in the totally dark caves. It does not need eyes as there is no light at all. On the other hand, the lanternfish lives in the deep sea where there is very little light. In order to see, it has big eyes to gather as much light as possible from its dim environment.

What do you know about light source? Explain in 3 minutes.
9
What is Light Source?
Objects that give off light are called light sources. The Sun is our main source of light in the day. It is a natural light source. At night, we use artificial (man-made) sources such as lamps to provide us with light.
10
Multiple Select
Which of these are natural light sources?
11
Multiple Select
Which of these are artificial (man-made) light sources?
12
Why can we see light sources?
We can see light sources because light travels from the light sources and enters our eyes. The path in which light travels is called a light ray. It can be represented by a straight line with an arrow.
13
A bundle of light rays makes up a beam of light.
14
Open Ended
Which area has the higher light intensity? An open playground or inside the mall? Explain your answer in 3 minutes.
15
How do we measure light intensity?
When a lot of light falls on an area, it looks bright. When only a little light falls on an area, it looks dim. A brightly lit area has a higher light intensity than a dimly lit area.
We can use a light meter ar a light sensor connected to a data logger to measure light intensity. Light intensity is measured in the unit Lux.

Explain in 3 minutes on why a mirror and other objects that do not give off light can reflect light?
17
Why can mirror and other objects that do not give off light can reflect light?
When light falls on a mirror, it bounces of in another direction. The bouncing of light off a surface is called the reflection of light.
A mirror can reflect light. The direction of the beam light changes when it falls on the mirror.
We can see mirrors and other objects that do not give off light because they reflect light in our eyes. If these objects were in a place where there was no light source, we would not be able to see them. This is because there would be no light to be reflected into our eyes.

Moon does not give off light, but why we can see it at night? Explain in 60 seconds.
20
Moon does not give its own light. We can see it because it reflects light from the Sun.
21
What objects can give off light?
Objects such as mirrors, polished metals, and glass have smooth surfaces. Objects with smooth surfaces reflect light well. They appear shiny and bright when light falls on them. We can see our reflections in them.
