10

Absolute Value and Integers

  • Opposites - Same distance from zero but on opposite sides of zero

  • The sum of two opposites is zero

  • Absolute Value - The distance between a number and zero on a number line , The numbers will always be positive the Absolute value of -432 is 432

  • Comparing and Ordering Integers - Negative numbers represent the numbers to the left of zero on the number line, Positive numbers are to the right of zero , Numbers increase in value from left to right on the number line , Zero is a Neutral Number

11

Comparing & Ordering Integers Continued

  • Greater than = Right Greater

  • Less than = Left

  • Bigger side should face the bigger number

  • Greatest to least means - the biggest number to the smallest number

  • Least to Greatest means - smallest number to the biggest number

12

Adding and Subtracting Integers

  • Same signs Add , Different signs Subtract

  •  Subtraction -

    K- Keep

    C- Change

    C- Change

    T- Then

    F- Follow

    R- Rules for

    A- Addition

  • Keep sign of first Integer , Change the minus to a plus , & change the sign of the second Integer to it's opposite , then follow rules for addition

13

Multiplying and Dividing Integers

  • Multiplying and Dividing have the same rules .

  • If the Integers have the same sign your answer will always be Positive .

  • If the Integers have different signs your answer will always be Negative .

14

Ascending & Descending

  • Ascending sounds like up so - Smallest to Largest

  • Descending sounds like down so - Largest to Smallest

15

Exponents

  • Exponents - tell us how many times a number is multiplied by itself .

  • 34 the larger number is consider to be the Base & the smaller number is the exponent

  • 34 = (3 x 3 x 3 x 3) = Expanded Notation

16

Prime Factorization

  • Prime Number - A number greater than 1 that has exactly 2 Factors (Ex. 3,5,7,2)

  • Composite Number - A number greater than 1 that has More than 2 Factors (Ex. All even Numbers EXCEPT 2 )

17
