2

ACTIVE VOICE

WHEN THE SUBJECT OF THE SENTENCE IS DOING THE ACTION AND THE OBJECT IS RECIVEING IT. IN OTHER WAYS, THE SUBJET IS AT THE BEGINING OF THE SENTENCE.

3

PASSIVE VOICE

WHEN THE OBJECT IS AT THE BEGINING OF THE SENTENCE INSTEAD OF THE SUBJECT, THE SENTENCE IS SAID TO BE IN THE PASSIVE VOICE.

4

WHY DO WE USE ACTIVE AND PASSIVE VOICE?

When we do not want to blame or make the conversation more polite, we use passive voice instead of active voice. But when we want to be more direct in our conversation, we use active voice.

5

Now read this conversation in active voice carefully.

JACK: Hi Sam. I saw that the clothes that were assigned to you weren't done yesterday.

SAM: Oh yes. Maybe I could do it now.

JACK: You have to take responsibilities you know.

SAM: Ok I understood Jack.

6

Now read the same conversation but it is now in passive voice.

JACK: Yesterday I saw that the clothes weren't done.

SAM: Yes they weren't.

JACK: Someone has to take responsibilities you know.

SAM: Yeah. I guess I could.

7

Did you understand what changes were made there?
