  • It extends between 0 to 10 degrees north and south.

  • ASIA: Indonesia, Papa New Guinea, Malaysia, and southern part of Philippines.

  1. Heavy Rain
  2. Constant and High temperature throughout the year.
  3. Days and night of almost equal duration.
  4. Region lies in the torrid belt, hence angle of incidence of sun rays is between 90 degrees to 661/2 degrees.

TEMPERATURE

  1. Temperature ranges between 25 to 30 degree Celsius during the year.
  2. Mornings are pleasant, temperature begins to rise in the afternoon and the sky is covered with clouds, which prevents the heat to radiate back which leads to high temperature on the ground.
  3. Nights are cool and sky remains clear at night.

RAINFALL

  1. Convectional type of rainfall.
  2. Range between 175 to 250 cms.
  3. Rainfall is maximum at the equinoxes in March and Sept.

Main trees are ebony, mahogany, cinchona, green heart, rosewood and rubber.

Equatorial region because of the presence of the dense Tropical Rainforest is called "Lungs of the World."

WILD LIFE

  1. Arboreal animals.
  2. There are large numbers of lemurs, apes, monkeys, reptiles, elephant and rhinoceroses.
  3. Among birds horn bills, parrot and macaws. Most of the bird and bright- coloured.
