Diffusion

  • Particles in a gas or a liquid are constantly moving.

  • Because of this, the particles will try to spread themselves out evenly throughout the gas or liquid.

  • If liquid/gas particles are 'bunched together', they will try to spread out and fill the space that they are in.

  • This is called diffusion.

Multiple Choice

TRUE OR FALSE? Diffusion occurs in solids, liquids and gases.

1

TRUE

2

FALSE

4

Diffusion

The movement of particles from a region of high concentration to an area of low concentration.

The particles will do this until they are evenly spread out (although they will still move around).

This is a passive process and does not require any energy!
