media

2

Eighth Note

  • Gets 1/2 beat

  • It takes 2 eighth notes to make 1 quarter note, 4 to make a half note, and 8 to make a whole note (8 eighths = 1)

  • Shorter in duration

  • Looks like a quarter note with a flag

media

3

Beamed Eighth Notes

Eighth notes are often joined by a SINGLE beam when they follow each other in music.

Since an Eighth note gets 1/2 beat, when they are beamed together they total 1 full beat.

Sixteenth Notes have 2 beams instead of one.
