Second Conditional
If Mathias had the courage, he would go on the roller coaster”.
3
Structure
A second conditional é formada por duas sentenças: a If clause e a main clause.
A if clause contém o verbo no simple past (passado simples) e a main clause inclui alguns verbos modais como o would, could, might, should.
If+ simple past + would, could, might, should + infinitivo (sem to)
Ex: If I went to Barcelona, I would visit the Market. (Se eu fosse a Barcelona, eu iria visitar o mercado)
4
Negative Structure
Jack wouldn't live abroad if his parents were overprotective.
(Negative outcome + Affirmative conditional)
Manu would live abroad if her mother weren't too old.
(Affirmative outcome + Negative conditional)
George wouldn't accept other cultures so well if he didn't leave his homeland.
(Negative outcome + Negative conditional)
5
Interrogative Structures
Ex:
Would you be happy if you lived in a completely different culture?
If you lived in a completely different culture, would you be happy?
6
Second Conditional
If clause + main clause:
If I had a million dollars, I would buy a new house.
Main clause + if clause:
I would buy a new house if I had a million dollars.

Should: should not – shouldn’t
Could: could not – couldn’t
