Plot - What the story is abouty
The plot follows young Charlie Bucket and his Grandpa Joe as they join a small group of contest winners who get to tour the magical and mysterious factory of eccentric candy maker Willy Wonka. Aided by his diminutive Oompa Loompa workers, Wonka has a hidden motivation for the tour, one that he will reveal only after the children in the group show their true colors.

Although the main setting of Charlie and the Chocolate Factory is a magical confectionery, it begins in a contemporary industrial area known simply as "a great town."

Charlie Bucket
Charlie Bucket - The protagonist (Hero) of the story. Charlie is kind and respectful toward everyone in his life. He must walk by Mr. Wonka’s factory every day on his way to school and smell the tantalizing smell of chocolate as his stomach grumbles. He is almost always cold because he does not have warm clothes. Even though he has every reason to complain, he never does. Charlie is exactly the kind of child that Mr. Wonka wants.

Grandpa Joe
Grandpa Joe is one of Charlie's four bed-ridden grandparents. He tells Charlie (and the reader) the story of Willy Wonka's chocolate factory and the mystery of the secret workers.

Augustus Gloop
An obese, greedy, gluttonous 9-year-old boy, the first person to find a Golden Ticket and one of the four main antagonists of Charlie and the Chocolate Factory. He hails from the fictional town of Dusselheim, Germany in the 1971 film, and Düsseldorf, Germany in the 2005 film.

Violet Beauregarde
A 10-year-old girl, is the third person to find a Golden Ticket, one of the four main antagonists of Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, and the second to be eliminated from the tour. She is a skillful, self-centered, rude, and chewing gum-obsessed girl.

Veruca Salt
is a greedy, demanding, stingy, spoiled brat and one of the four main antagonists of Charlie and the Chocolate Factory. She demands every single thing she wants.

Mike Teavee
is a 9-year-old boy who does nothing but watch television, both the fourth Golden Ticket finder and the fourth to be eliminated from the tour, and one of the four main antagonists of Charlie and the Chocolate Factory.

The Oompa-Loompas
are small humans who were preyed upon by the various predators that reside in their homeland before Wonka invited them to work at his factory. They are paid in their favorite food, cocoa beans, which were extremely rare on their island.
