STARTER ACTIVITY: READ

An organic compound is a chemical compound whose molecules generally contain the element carbon. The study of organic compounds is termed organic chemistry. Many of these compounds, such as proteins, fats, and carbohydrates (sugars) are also of prime importance in biochemistry.

The dividing line between organic and inorganic is generally described as organic compounds being defined as compounds which have carbon-based bonds, and inorganic compounds are those without carbon.
