Qualitative vs. Quantitative

In every experiment, you must take notes. We call the notes data. Data should be recorded in two different ways:

Qualitative (the words)

These are the descriptions of what is happening in the experiment.

Scientific Method Vocab

  • Hypothesis = A guess based on evidence and research for the answer to a question or a solution to a problem.

  • Variable = The thing you are testing in an experiment.

  • Independent Variable = The part of the experiment that you are testing and changing.

  • Dependent Variable = The result of the experiment, the thing that you measure as a result of your experiment.

  • Control = The part of the experiment where nothing is changed.

  • Data = Information you record in an experiment.
