My goal is to learn how to add positive and negative integers. I know I have it when I can determine the correct sign of my answer (positive vs. negative).

Recall:

Positive numbers move to the RIGHT

Negative numbers move to the LEFT

Adding Positive and Negative Integers

POSITIVE + POSITIVE = POSITIVE

NEGATIVE + NEGATIVE = NEGATIVE

POSITIVE + NEGATIVE = Depends on who had the greater distance from 0
