2

Objective: SWBAT understand the process of solving two-step equations through models. SWBAT write an equation from model, and then find the solution.

  • 7.10(A) write one-variable, two-step equations and inequalities to represent constraints or conditions within problems.

  • 7.11(A) model and solve one-variable, two- step equations, and inequalities.

3

Vocabulary:

  • Variable: A quantity that can change. Letters are used to represent these changing, unknown quantities.

  • Equation: a mathematical statement that two things are equal. It consists of two

expressions, one on each side of an 'equals' sign.

  • Inverse Operation: An operation that undoes what was done by the previous operation.

  • Coefficient: A number multiplied by a variable.

  • Constant: A value that doesn't change, a fixed value. A number that is added to or

    subtracted from a variable.

4

Vocabulary:

  • Solution: A value, or values, we can put in place of a variable (such as x) that makes the equation true.

  • Isolate: To get alone on one side of the equal sign.

  • Balance: To maintain equal values on both sides of the equal sign.
