More complex figures and diagrams

  • The figure to the right has two sets of intersecting lines.

  • The two sets of intersecting lines form four intersections.

3

Corresponding Angles

  • The following are pairs of corresponding angles . These examples only show some of the corresponding angles in the figure.

  •  1 and 13\angle1\ and\ \angle13

  •  1 and 5\angle1\ and\ \angle5

  •  16 and 4\angle16\ and\ \angle4

  •  16 and 12\angle16\ and\ \angle12

Alternate Interior Angles

  • The following are alternate interior angle examples. These examples only show some of the alternate interior angles in the figure.

  •  2 and 8\angle2\ and\ \angle8  These angles are Alt. Int. angles because they are on the interior of lines a and b and are on alternate sides of transversal d.

  •  3 and 13\angle3\ and\ \angle13  These angles are alt/ int. angles because they are in the interior of lines d and c and are on opposite sides of transversal a.

  •  5 and 15\angle5\ and\ \angle15  These angles are NOT alternate interior because they are NOT on the same transversal.

Alternate Exterior Angles

  • The following are alternate exterior angle examples. These examples only show some of the alternate exterior angles in the figure.

  •  2 and 16\angle2\ and\ \angle16  These are alternate exterior angles because they are on the exterior of lines d and c and are on alternate sides of transversal a.

  •  6 and 12\angle6\ and\ \angle12  These alternate exterior angles because they are on the exterior of lines d and c and are on alternate sides of transversal b.

  •  6 and 16\angle6\ and\ \angle16  These angles are not alternate exterior angles because they are not on the same transversal.

Consecutive Interior Angles

  •  3 and 14\angle3\ and\ \angle14  These angles are consecutive interior angles. They are on the same side of transversal a and they are on the interior of lines a and b.

  •  8 and 9\angle8\ and\ \angle9  These angles are consecutive interior angles. They are on the same side of transversal b and are in the interior of lines d and c.
