Reflexive Pronouns

Pronouns that end with -self or -selves that reflect or refer back to the subject, both noun or pronoun forms, of a sentence or clause. This simply identifies what the subject of the sentence does to oneself or itself.

The pronoun herself above expresses that the store owner who happens to be a girl/lady/woman baked a cake for herself. The reflexive pronoun functions as an indirect object (for whom the cake is baked).

Reflexive pronouns serve an integral function or a necessary part in the sentence, they cannot be removed or changed to other pronoun forms.
