Remember, a common noun can be either:

  • Concrete: something that you can identify with one of your five physical senses

  • Abstract: something that has no physical existence

Nouns can be:

  • People

  • Places

  • Things

  • Ideas

Proper nouns...

  • Are specific people, places, things, or ideas

Pronouns...

  • Replace a noun (usually a proper noun) in order to avoid being repetitive
