Outline #2 and Adding Reasoning

Adding Reasoning to Your Essay Outline
Reasoning is NEVER quotations. It is your own words.
4
For every piece of evidence in your outline, you must provide a minimum of TWO sentences of reasoning.
The purpose of your reasoning is to explain the quotation used as your evidence, explaining how it proves your supporting claim and your central claim.
See the next slide to break each sentence of reasoning down.
5
Reasoning 1 makes a connection between the evidence and your supporting claim.
Explain the quotation in your own words and make it clear how it is supporting the claim of the paragraph (Supporting Claim).
Starting prompts for Reasoning #1:
"This means that..."
"It is clear that..."
6
Reasoning 2 connects the evidence & reasoning to the central claim
This statement should directly reference your central claim (ESHS should/should not return to in person schooling)
Starting prompts for Reasoning #2: "This is important because…"
"Therefore, because _____________, ESHS should/should not return in person."
"This is important because…"
"This proves ESHS should/should not return to school because..."

How much reasoning am I writing??
In your outline (and in your essay), you will have 5 examples of evidence. That means, you need to provide reasoning 5 times on your outline. Each has two sentences (reasoning 1 and reasoning 2). Therefore, you are adding 10 sentences of reasoning on your outline.
