Goals

• 3rd period: learn about rulers and practice measuring to the nearest inch

• 2,4,8: learn important measuring vocabulary and measure to the nearest quarter inch

Using a ruler

• We use rulers to measure the length of lines and objects

• Rulers usually have the measurement for inches on one side and centimeters on the other side

• In math class, we will pracitce measuring with inches

Using a ruler

• 1st we need to line up our ruler with the edge of our object

Measuring to the nearest inch

• When we are measuring to the nearest inch, we will look for the number on the ruler that is closest to the end of the item

• We can see the numbers 1, 2, and 3 on this ruler

• tape measure: 3 inches

• spatula: 7 inches
