2
Parallel Lines
Remember, Parallel lines are lines that lie in the same plane that do not intersect!
3
Transversals
Transversals are lines that intersect two or more lines
4
When a transversal intersects a pair of PARALLEL LINES , 8 angles are formed
These angles have special relationships that you have to remember
5
Interior v. Exterior
Interior means BETWEEN the parallel lines
Exterior means OUTSIDE the paralell lines
6
Consecutive v. Alternate
Consecutive means on the SAME SIDE of the TRANSVERSAL
Alternate means on DIFFERENT SIDES of the TRANSVERSAL
7
Corresponding Angles
Angles that are in the same position on each parallel line
Corresponding Angles are CONGRUENT
Which of these angles are corresponding?
8
ALTERNATE INTERIOR ANGLES
Angles inside the parallel lines but on different sides of the transversal
Alternate Interior Angles are CONGRUENT
Which of these angles is the alternate interior?
9
ALTERNATE EXTERIOR ANGLES
Angles OUTSIDE the parallel lines but on different sides of the transversal
Alternate Exterior Angles are CONGRUENT
Which of these angles is the alternate exterior?
10
CONSECUTIVE INTERIOR ANGLES
(same side interior)
Angles INSIDE the parallel lines AND on SAME sides of the transversal
Consecutive Interior Angles are SUPPLEMENTARY (=180)
Which of these angles is the consecutive interior?
11
CONSECUTIVE EXTERIOR ANGLES
(same side exterior)
Angles OUTSIDE the parallel lines AND on SAME sides of the transversal
Consecutive Exterior Angles are SUPPLEMENTARY (=180)
Which of these angles is the Consecutive Exterior?
