  • Read the problem carefully, and look for words indicating math operations of adding, subtracting, multiplying and dividing

  • Decide if the values in the problem represent positive values or negative values

  • Problems that involve repeated addition (doing something multiple times) are multiplication problems

  • The words "per" and "for each" usually indicate a division problem

  • Drawing a picture/a visual will almost always help you when solving story problems
