Simple & Compound Sentences

A simple sentence contains one subject and one predicate and forms a complete thought.
It may have a compound subject, a compound predicate, or both.
Ex. Kayla had lunch at the museum.
Ex. Brian and Zoie read and study books.

A compound sentence contains two or more simple sentences. They are joined by a comma and a coordinating conjunction, or by a semicolon.
Coordinating conjunctions are FANBOYS (for, and, nor, but or, yet, so)
Compound sentences have two complete subjects and two complete predicates.
Ex. Darlene took the day off school, but her doctor’s appointment was canceled.
Ex. The ghost frightened Luca, and he ran away in tears.
