The Earth
What we live on and where we are...

2
Not long ago we learned about the equinoxes and solstices, and why we have seasons.
3
Do you recall?
That the Earth spins like a top.
That the center that it spins around is called the axis.
That the North and South Poles are places on earth where you can stand on the axis.
And that it is tilted a bit as it goes around the sun.
4
Do you recall that?
On two days a year the earth is sideways to the sun.
That one day, the Autumnal Equinox, it the first day of Fall.
That the other day, the Vernal Equinox, is the first day of Spring.
That on those two days night time and day time are the same length.
That we call those days equinoxes, because day and night are equal on those days.
5
Do you recall that?
On two days a year that either the North Pole or the South Pole lean towards the Sun.
That when the North Pole is leaning most toward the Sun that it is the first day of Summer (for the North half of the Earth).
That when the South Pole is leaning most toward the Sun it is the first day of Winter (for the North half of the Earth)
That on those two days night time and day time are very different lengths.
That we call those days solstices.
