Yes or No Questions

Put "do" or "does" first to make a question with a verb. These are yes/no questions. Look at the difference.

Is/Are + subject(s) + noun/adjective....?Do/Does + subject(s) + verb....?

Are you a teacher? Do you work at school? Is he her student? Does she have a test?

So, we use "do" and "does" when using verbs (besides the verb "to be").

Use "Does" if the subject is he, she, it, or one person, one thing, or one animal (not I or You).

Do/Does + subject(s) + verb...?

Do you want to study in my house? Does Mark do the homework? Does she like spanish?

Remember, do not add an "-s" or "-es" after the other verb in sentences with "does". We already added "-es" to "does", so we do not need to do it for the other verb. For example,

She likes pizza. Does she like pizza? (No "-s" at the end of "like")

You can answer these kinds of questions with short or long answers

Do you like English?

Yes I do/No I don't

Does María like Math?

• Yes she loves it.

• No, she hates it.

Do you study in the library in the morning?

• Yes I do

• No I don't
