Question: Who is he?

When the San Francisco de los Tejas Mission fell in 1693, he continued to work among the Caddo Indians. He helped to establish the San Juan Bautista Mission. He wanted to spread his missionary work in Texas to north of the Rio Grande. For more than 10 years, he struggled to make his dream a reality. As a result of his letters to the French governor of Louisiana, St. Denis came to Texas in 1714, setting up a colony at present-day Natchitoches, Louisiana. This action resulted in Spain’s permanent settlement of Texas 2 years later. He became the minister of the newly established Nuestro Padre San Francisco de los Tejas in East Texas. He moved to San Antonio in 1719 when the Spanish abandoned the East Texas missions to the French. He continued serving as a missionary until he retired in 1725. He died in San Juan Bautista one year later.
