Lunar eclipse

During its revolution, the Earth occasionally moves between the Sun and Moon. Earth blocks the sunlight from reaching the Moon, which means the Moon is in the Earth’s shadow. The result is called a lunar eclipse. A total lunar eclipse happens when the Earth's shadow completely prevents sunlight from reaching the Moon. A partial lunar eclipse happens when only a part of the Moon's surface is hidden by the Earth's shadow.

Solar eclipses occur when the Moon comes between the Earth and the Sun. They are in a straight line. A total solar eclipse happens when the Moon completely covers the Sun. It can only be seen from a limited area of Earth. From other angles, it would seem to be a partial eclipse. A partial solar eclipse happens when the Moon covers only a part of the Sun.
