Subject Pronouns

Explain that a pronoun is a word that takes the place of a noun.

A subject pronoun takes the place of a noun used as the subject of a sentence.

To identify the subject of a sentence and the subject pronoun that might replace it, I ask: Who or what is the subject of the sentence? What word can you replace the subject with?

Example: Jessica emptied the box.

The word Jessica is the subject.

I can replace it with the subject pronoun She.
