Forces Unbalanced/Balanced + Gravity

Slide image

2

What is a force?

  • A force has strength and direction

3

What is a balanced force?

  • When two forces that are the same size (amount) act in opposite directions.

  • Think of them as canceling each other out

4

What about an unbalanced force?

  • When a force is not opposed, it is unbalanced

  • An object will start to move in the direction of an unbalanced force

  • More than one force can add together in the same direction

What is the physical science term for a PUSH or PULL on an object?

1

Motion

2

Force

3

Friction

4

Gravity

9

Gravity

  • A pull toward the most massive object nearby

  • Mass means how much stuff something has

  • Gravity moves around the speed of light

10

Mass is a measure of the amount of matter in an object.

  • Mass is usually measured in grams (g) or kilograms (kg).

  • Mass measures the quantity of matter (how much matter something has)

  • Mass is the same regardless of the object's location in the universe

  • Mass is the same regardless of the gravitational force applied to it.
