Roanoke Island

  • Sir Walter Raleigh sent scouts to find a good place for a colony. They discovered a place called Roanoke Island (island off the coast of NC).

  • 1585 - After a hard winter, the first group of colonists gave up and went back to England.

  • 1587 - A second group, which included families, made the voyage back. It was led by John White.
