3

Multiple Choice

Question image

What are the equation and slope of the line shown on the coordinate grid?

1

y=3y=3 ; slope is zero

2

x=3x=3 ; slope is 13-\frac{1}{3}

3

y=3y=3 ; slope is 33

4

x=3x=3 ; slope is undefined

4

Poll

How do you feel about your ability to determine and interpret the slope of a function?

Totally got this. Easy dubs.

Kinda got this. It makes a little sense.

Eh, sometimes I get it. Depends on who is sitting next to me.

10/10 do not recommend letting me do this alone.

5

Slope-Intercept Form

 y=mx+by=mx+b

  • m is the slope

  • b is the y-coordinate of the y-intercept

6

Multiple Choice

Given y=3x+4y=3x+4  , the slope of this linear function is

1

 m=3m=3

2

 m=4m=4

3

 m=34m=\frac{3}{4}

4

 m=43m=\frac{4}{3}

7

Multiple Choice

Given y=3x+4y=3x+4  , the y-intercept of this linear function is

1

 (0,3)\left(0,3\right)

2

 (3,0)\left(3,0\right)

3

 (0,4)\left(0,4\right)

4

 (4,0)\left(4,0\right)

8

Slope-Intercept Form

Take note that while the proper form of the equation is written  y=mx+by=mx+b  , you can move the terms around. The slope is always the coefficient of the x and the constant is always the y-coordinate of the y-intercept.

9

Multiple Select

Given  y=2+34xy=-2+\frac{3}{4}x  , identify the slope and the y-intercept.

1

The slope of the linear function is  34\frac{3}{4}  because  34\frac{3}{4}  is the coefficient of the independent variable.

2

The slope of the linear function is  2-2  because  2-2  is the coefficient of the independent variable.

3

The y-intercept of the linear function is  (0,2)\left(0,-2\right)  because  2-2  is the constant in the equation.

4

The y-intercept of the linear function is  (0,34)\left(0,\frac{3}{4}\right)  because  (0,34)\left(0,\frac{3}{4}\right)  is the constant in the equation.

10

Multiple Select

Given  y=23+3xy=-\frac{2}{3}+3x  , identify the slope and the y-intercept.

1

The slope of the linear function is  23-\frac{2}{3}  because  23-\frac{2}{3}  is the coefficient of the independent variable.

2

The slope of the linear function is  33  because  33  is the coefficient of the independent variable.

3

The y-intercept of the linear function is  (0,23)\left(0,-\frac{2}{3}\right)  because  (0,23)\left(0,-\frac{2}{3}\right)  is the constant in the equation.

4

The y-intercept of the linear function is  (0,3)\left(0,3\right)  because  (0,3)\left(0,3\right)  is the constant in the equation.

11

Slope-Intercept Form

When given a graph, you can determine the equation of a linear function by:

  • Finding the y-intercept and another second point on the line.
  • Calculating the slope of the line.
  • Replacing those values into the equation.

15
