The SUBJECT of a sentence is WHO or What the sentence is about.

The PREDICATE is what the subject is or does.

What is the subject?

The question mark is yellow.

What is the sentence about?

The subject is: The question mark

What is the predicate?

The question mark is yellow.

What about the subject? (The question mark)

Predicate: is yellow

The predicate almost always begins with a VERB.

• Anthony and Hunter walked to the store.

• Mrs. Jones's cat scratched the new couch!

• Sophia's new car broke down at Target.

What is the subject?

Sophia's new car broke down at Target.

WHAT is the sentence about?

Sophia.........no

Sophia's new.......no.....new what?

Sophia's new car.........YES

What is the predicate?

• The bird's cage is filthy!

• Ryan slept during class.

• Five mean ladies yelled at Eli for walking through their yard.
