Simile

a figure of speech involving the comparison of one thing with another thing of a different kind, using like or as.

Metaphor

a figure of speech involving the comparison of one thing with another thing of a different kind, WITHOUT "like" or "as".

Alliteration

the occurrence of the same letter or sound at the beginning of adjacent or closely connected words.

Like Dr. Watson would say, "You know the 3 C's: Questions, comment, concerns?"

Hyperbole

exaggerated statements or claims not meant to be taken literally.

Irony

the expression of one's meaning by using language that normally signifies the opposite, typically for humorous or emphatic effect.

Personification

the attribution of a personal nature or human characteristics to something nonhuman, or the representation of an abstract quality in human form.

Allusion

an expression designed to call something to mind without mentioning it explicitly; an indirect or passing reference.

Assonance

the repetition of the same or similar vowel sounds within words, phrases, or sentences.

Idiom

an expression which may not mean literally what it says, but most people understand.
