Exploring key concepts
Take notes
6
Magnetism
It refers to physical phenomena caused by the force exerted by magnets; objects that create fields that attract or repel other objects.
7
Attraction and repulsion
Magnets have two poles: a north pole and a south pole. Similar poles repel each other while different poles attract, causing the phenomena known as attraction and repulsion.
8
Multiple Choice
What are magnets made of?
iron
plastic
copper
magnetite
9
Magnetic field
The area in which the magnet exerts force on materials like iron, silver, copper, steel and other magnetic materials.
10
Multiple Choice
There is no acting force in a magnetic field.
True.
False.
11
Electromagnetism
It refers to the study of the magnetic field generated by electric current. A magnetic field is an area around a magnet where a magnetic force always works between two poles of charge.
12
Multiple Choice
What does electromagnetism study?
the magnetic field generated by electric current.
attraction and repulsion of some materials.
conducting and insulating materials.
13
Multiple Choice
Electromagnetism studies the magnetic field generated by electric current but the opposite can also happen.
True
False
14
Magnets
are objects made of elements found in nature, especially one component which is called magnetite.
15
Multiple Choice
Magnets have two poles: north and south.
True.
False.
16
Earth´s magnetic field
Earth also has a magnetic field caused by the liquid iron, which is constantly moving in its core.
17
Multiple Choice
What generates the magnetic field in the earth?
The nuclear force
The electromagnetic force
The liquid iron found in its core
18
Multiple Choice
The earth has a magnetic field caused by the liquid iron found in its core.
True.
False.
19
Magnetism generates electric current
It has been said that electric current generates magnetism but the opposite can also happen. Magnets can be used to generate electric current through the use of a generator; a device that can create electric current out of a magnet.
20
Multiple Choice
Electromagnetism examples are found in Tvs, computers, cellphones and other devices.
True
False
21
Check true or false
22
Multiple Choice
A magnetic field can generate electric current and viceversa.
True
False
23
Multiple Choice
Similar poles attract each other.
True
False
24
Multiple Choice
Different poles attract each other.
