Multiplication

Multiplication is when you take one number and add it together a number of times. We took the number 5 and added it together 4 times. This is why multiplication is sometimes called "times".

Division

Division is the process of taking a whole item or a set of items and splitting, or dividing, them into equal groups. When you use division, you are starting with a larger number, and breaking it into smaller, equal pieces.

Addition

When things are put together, we do addition. The sign used for addition is called plus. Hence, addition is finding the sum or the total by combining 2 or more numbers.

Subtraction

In math, to subtract means to take away from a group or a number of things. When we subtract, the number of things in the group reduce or become less. In the subtraction problem, 7 – 3 = 4, the number 7 is the minuend, the number 3 is the subtrahend and the number 4 is the difference.
