ab + bc... remember the outside number multiplies everything inside the parenthesis!

Let's take a look at this problem:

3(a + 5)

[Step 1] 3 times a = 3(a)= 3a

[Step 2] 3 times 5= 3(5)= 15

[Step 3] Put it all together 3a + 15... all done!

If you said 2(w) was the first step, that is correct!

[Step 1] 2(w) = 2w
