Using exponents
2
Expanded form VS exponential form
When a number is in exponential form, it is written as a base and an exponent.
Expanded form is just the opposite: We write the base number over and over using the exponent to tell us how many time to write it.
3
Repeated Multiplication
Remember, an exponent is just a short way to show that a number is being multiplied BY ITSELF a certain number of repetitions. The repetitions are the EXPONENT, and the number being repeatedly multiplied by itself is the BASE
4
Exponential to Expanded
In this example, the exponential form is rewritten to the expanded form. As you can see, the BASE is written and it is written 3 times, which is the EXPONENT.
5

Evluating an answer
To evaluate an number in exponetial form, you first have to expand the number
10
Expanding the number
Write the base number doen the number of times that the exponent tells to do so. In this case, we write the 4 three times. Don't forget to put the dot showing that we are multiplying in between.
11
Multiply
The next step is to multiply the numbers.
4 times 4 is 16 and then we multiply 16 by 4. I chuck the numbers so that 16 is 10 + 6 (so I can do it in my head). 10 times 4 is 40 and 6 times 4 is 24. Then I add 40 plus 24 and get 64. So, 16 times 4 is 64.
