A singular noun names one person, place, thing, or idea.

  • Ex. medal, coin, lunch, man, child, tooth, deer

A plural noun names more than one person, place, thing, or idea.

  • Plural nouns do NOT receive apostrophes unless they are also possessive!

  • Ex. medals, coins, lunches, men, children, teeth, deer

  • Nouns that end in s, ss, sh, ch, x, or z need an es added to the end to become plural. (brush🡪brushes)

  • Nouns that end in a consonant –y, change the y to ie and add an s. (city🡪cities)

  • Nouns that end in a vowel -y, add an s. (key​🡪keys)
