Worship is expressing adoration and reverence to a deity. Before it became common practice to have a place of worship, people used to worship outside in the open air. As various religions began to grow and spread it became necessary to worship in a building as they not only expressed devotion to God, but also served to protect people from the element such as cold, heat and rain.

In Islam an entire se of rituals are done for the sole purpose of making the worshippers physical and spiritually ready for worship. This is the washiing ritual called wudu. This ritual involves washing the heads, and feet before prayer. Before Muslims enter the Masjid (Mosque) they remove their shoes and leave it outside. This is done as a show of respect for God.
