What are the main organs in the respiratory system?

Through respiration, the body obtains the oxygen it needs to survive. Air enters the body through the nose, and sometimes the mouth. It travels down the respiratory tract inside the neck and the chest until it reaches the lungs.

Two small tubes, called bronchus, connect the respiratory tract to the lungs. Inside the lungs, the bronchi divide into smaller tubes. At the end of each tube there is an air sac called an alveolus (plural: alveoli).

Below the lungs, there is a strong muscle called the diaphragm.
