Grade 8 - Introduction to Volleyball

Equipment Needed To Play Volleyball

• Ball 

• Knee pads 

• Appropriate footwear

• Uniform (shorts and shirt)

• Socks

Skills Needed To Play Volleyball

• Serving (overhead, underarm)

• Spiking 

• Passing (forearm, volley)

• Blocking 

• Setting 

Forearm Pass

• Stand with feet slightly wider than your shoulders 

• Bend knees

• Place one hand in the palm of the other

• Thumbs together pointing to the floor

• Keep arms away from the body with elbows straight 

• Ball must contact both forearms at above waist height

• Straighten knees as you make the pass

Volley Pass

• Stand with feet shoulder width apart with one slightly in front of the other

• Bend your knees 

• Position your hands above your forehead

• Point elbows outwards

• Keep fingers apart

• Form a triangle with your thumbs and index fingers

Volley Pass

• Bend your knees 

• Look through the triangle to see the ball

• Make contact with the ball with the pads of your fingers

• Flick your wrists and extend arms

• Straighten your knees

• Follow through in the direction of the pass
