How are food chains in a pond like other food chains?

  • Animals and plants that live in a pond habitat are suited to live around or underwater. Ex. Fish have gills that allow them to live underwater.

  • Herbivores are animals that eat only plants. Water fleas, which are very common in ponds, eat very tiny plants called algae.

  • Animals that eat other animals are called carnivores. For example, stickleback fish eat water fleas.

  • A stickleback is a predator of water fleas and water fleas are its prey.
