Because he was so worried about the Americans after the events in Boston, King George III sent 10,000 British troops to "make sure they were okay."

To be fair, some of the more radical members against British taxation (without representation) DID go too far at times...

• Most Americans liked being a part of the British Empire

• Because of this the few who wanted to rally against British taxes needed to be noticed

• So they did violent things to be heard and make their point known.

• Also, John Adams and John Hancock were there and the British wanted to arrest them (they were members of the Continental Congress)
