Atom and Periodic Table Review

2
How do you use the periodic table squares to find the number of protons, neutrons, and eletrons?
Protons=Atomic Number
Electrons=protons
Neutrons= Atomic Mass - Protons
3
Why do we do atomic mass - protons to find neutrons?
The total mass of an atom is composed of just the protons and neutrons.
In order to find the neutrons all we have to do is take out the protons.
(Don't forget to round the mass to the nearest whole number)
4
What are the charges of the subatomic particles? (subatomic just means smaller than an atom)
Protons are Positive
Neutrons are neutral
Electrons are negative
5
Where are the subatomic particles located in the structure of an atom?
Protons are in the nucleus
Neutrons are in the nucleus
Electrons are moving around outside the nucleus
6
How are solids liquids are gases different?
The particle speed increases as you go from solid to gas
Solids have the lowest particle speed, the particles are stuck close together and only vibrate in the same place. The amount of vibration is the temperature of the object
The particles in liquids have more freedom to move around, particles are slipping and sliding past one another
Gasses have particles that are bouncing around with little to no restraint.
7
What is the difference in a chemical change and a physical change?
Chemical change makes a new substance
Physical change can change a physical property but it is still the same substance
8
What are the 5 physical change evidences?
Change of color
Change of texture
Change of temperature
Change of shape
Change of State of Mater
9
What are the 5 evidences that a chemical change has occured?
Unexpected change in color
Unexpected change in temperature
Combustion/burning
Precipitate forming
Bubbles/Gas produced
