Complex Sentence
A thought that depends on an independent thought
If the first word starts with a AWUBIS, you need a comma!
You don't need a comma if the AWUBIS is in the middle.

When I get home from school , I need to take my dog for a walk.
After I take my dog for a walk , I help my mom with dinner.

My dog pulls on his leash since he's excited. (no comma)
I do the dishes while my mom cooks. (no comma)

Listing Sentence
Items in a list or series need commas to separate them.
There is always one less comma than there are items in the list.

The boys collected rocks , rolled down the hill , picked flowers , and touched bugs at recess.
