Linking Verbs

A linking verb tells what someone or something is or is like.

Most linking verbs are forms of the verb be. The words appear, become, and seem can also be linking verbs.

Example: The students are eager to learn. (are = linking verb)

Using the Verb be

When using the verb be, use the word am with the subject I, and is or was with subjects that are singular.

I am, not I is

He is or was, not he am
