Triangle Congruence

How can you tell if two triangles are congruent?

Triangle Congruence

• If two triangles are congruent, then the corresponding parts of the triangles are congruent. (A.K.A - CPCTC)

• So if you already know the triangles are congruent, then all the corresponding parts are congruent.

• If all corresponding parts of two triangles are congruent, then the triangles are congruent.

• So if all 6 pairs of corresponding parts are congruent, then the triangles are congruent.

Triangle Congruence

• If all 6 parts of one triangle are the same as all 6 parts of another triangle, then the two triangles are congruent (identical).

• When writing the congruence statement, you must keep corresponding parts in the same order.

• Two triangles are congruent if and only if corresponding pairs of sides and corresponding pairs of angles are congruent.

List all pairs of congruent parts.

 $<M\cong<S,<L\cong<R,<K\cong<Q$   $\overline{MK}\cong\overline{SQ,}\ \overline{KL}\cong\overline{QR},\ \overline{LM}\cong\overline{RS}$  

Since all 6 pairs of corresponding parts are congruent then  $\Delta MKL\cong\Delta SQR$
