What we need to know about phrases

  • They are a group of words

All About Clauses

  • An independent clause has a subject, verb, and complete thought.

  • A subordinate/dependent clause has a subject and verb, but...

  • Subordinate clauses begin with subordinating conjunctions and relative pronouns.

  • We use the phrase, "Is it true that..." to determine if something is a phrase or clause, and if a clause is independent or subordinate.
