Computer Science A Level Coursework
The learner will choose a computing problem to work through according to the guidance in the specification.
• Analysis of the problem
• Design of the solution
• Developing the solution
• Evaluation
2
Analysis of the problem (10 marks)
3.1.1 Problem identification
3.1.2 Stakeholders
3.1.3 Research the problem
3.1.4 Specify the proposed solution
3
3.1.1 Problem identification
(a) Describe and justify the features that make the problem solvable by computational methods.
(b) Explain why the problem is amenable to a computational approach.
What should your report have in it? Two subheadings summarising the above two points but making them relavent to your project.
4
Multiple Select
Which of the following best decribes problem identification?
Clearly identifying the root cause of a problem.
Developing a detailed problem statement
A list of issues that have been found
An oppinion set from key stakeholders
5
Multiple Choice
What is feaisbility?
Is the task at hand achievable with constraints
Is it justified
Taking into consideration constraints and mitigation, is the task able to be successfully completed to the clients needs
6
Multiple Choice
What is formal language?
Clear, profesisonal and contains little or no oppinions
No swearing, or slang
An indepth technological language that will be informative and descriptive
7
3.1.2 Stakeholders
Identify and describe those who will have an interest in the solution explaining how the solution is appropriate to their needs (this may be named individuals, groups or persona that describes the target end user).
Who is this for?
Who will use it?
Who will benefit? In what way will they benefit?
How will this impact them ina greater way than an exsiting solution on the market?
8
Multiple Select
Which of the following are stakeholders for school?
Students
Parents
Community
Govenors
Council
9
3.1.3 Research the problem
(a) Research the problem and solutions to similar problems to identify and justify suitable approaches to a solution.
(b) Describe the essential features of a computational solution explaining these choices.
(c) Explain the limitations of the proposed solution.
What should your report have in it? Three subheadings summarising the above three points but making them relavent to your project.
10
Admit the truth and accept reality
It is ok to be creating a system similar to another. The question is what does your system do that another does not and why is your system better for your stakeholders than x,y or z.
11
Multiple Choice
How many alternative solutions show a 'broad scope' of the market?

Multiple Choice
What diagramatic presentation method will best demonstrate your knwoledge of key features?
Table
Graph
Pie Chart
13
Feasibility Study and Identification of Constraints and Limitations
There are different parts of a feasibility study.
Identify your chosen project
Evaluation and analysis of the proposed concept proposal - Organisational, Technological, Budget, Schedulling Feasibility
Evaluation of alternative proposals
Market assessment
Results and conclusions (e.g. whether to proceed or not)
14
Multiple Choice
How the project will be created e.g. using C#, will come under what part of the feasibility?
Organisational
Technological
Opperational
Schedulling
15
Multiple Choice
How the project will be used by the client will come under what part of the feasibility?
Organisational
Technological
Opperational
Schedulling
16
Multiple Choice
How and when the project will be completed will come under what part of the feasibility?
Organisational
Technological
Opperational
Schedulling
17
3.1.4 Specify the proposed solution
(a) Specify and justify the solution requirements including hardware and software configuration (if appropriate).
(b) Identify and justify measurable success criteria for the proposed solution.
This may be completed as a part of 3.1.3
18
Hardware and Software Requirements
A clear table
Showing due thought has been given to what it is that is required and how it will be achieved
Must go from point A to Z and include all stakeholders
19
Success Criteria
Success criteria is a set of features which a stakeholder wants to see in the project. It is a good way to ensure that the developer know what's expected of them.
It allows for testingYou must identify the clients wants and the clients needs
It should be limited in detail and be able to be easily ticked off.
