We find this by comparing one measurement to another.

6 cm is in the same location as 3 cm

12 cm is in the same location as 6 cm

We can calculate the scale using division:

6/3 = 2 and 12/6 = 2

The relationship will always be the same!!

The scale is:

the size of the drawing : size of the object

Scale 1 : 2

What is the value of x

We need to compare the sides

• We calculate 28/7 = 4

• So we know that the scale is 1:4

• That means that the original is 4 times bigger than the drawing

• Therefore 5 x 4 = 20

• x = 20
