Colony Growth
Throughout the 1600 and 1700s, more and more people were moving into the English colonies. Overtime, the colonies became crowded and colonists desired more land. Many moved west into a region called the backcountry. As the colonies continued expanding westward into the Ohio River Valley, a problem arose. 2 groups already claimed this land as their own, the French and the Native Americans.

The war officially lasted 7 years from 1756-1763
The British were fighting against the French & Indians who teamed up and worked together as allies.
The British ended up winning the war, but they faced HUGE debts as a result of it.

The Proclamation of 1763
This was King George's official announcement stating that colonists were not allowed to move westward onto the newly won land.
This land would be reserved for the Native Americans in order to prevent future conflicts with the tribes.
Colonists were ANGRY because they had just finished 7 years of fighting in order to gain this land and expand into its territories.
