Weathering is the breaking down of larger rocks into smaller rocks.

There are 3 types of weathering

• Physical

• Chemical

• Biological

Physical Weathering

The main types:

• caused by freezing and thawing
• cracks in the land surface due to pressure
• wind and water

Biological Weathering

Where living things have helped to break larger rocks into smaller rocks.

Chemical Weathering

When water reacts with the minerals in rocks to form new minerals.

Eg. Limestone is weathered by rainwater containing dissolved carbon dioxide.
