Tujuan Pembelajaran

Melalui kegiatan menulis secara individu, siswa dapat menyusun teks surat pribadi dengan terkait kegiatan diri sendiri dan orang sekitarnya sesuai dengan konteks penggunaannya dengan benar

Personal letter is a letter which is used in informal context (for someone you know).

A type of letter (or informal composition) that usually concerns personal matters (rather than profesional concerns) and is sent from one individual to another. The main different between personal letter and other letter is the contain of the letter

The purpose about the personal letter is to convey personal opinion or interest.

• to sustain good relationships by sending written greetings and personal news to friends

• to share information to friends

Generic Structure (Struktur)

• Place and Date: It tells about the specific time the letter is written;

• Recipient Address: It contains the complete postal address of the receiver of the message;

• Greeting: An interjaction that is used to open the conversation of the letter;

• Contents : Several paragraphs claborates the aim of the letter;

• Writer’s Hope: It states what the writer wishes for that the receiver of the message would do;

• Closing: A signature from the writer and the proper closing statement.

There are expressions used in a personal letter:

• Opening:

  .its's been a long time since we last met

  .thanks for your letter

  .it was great to get your letter

  .I'm writing to ask you a favor

  .sorry for not writing for so long

• Closure

  .please, write to me soon

  .don't forget to write to me

  .let me know as soon as possible

Language Feature (Ciri Kebahasaan)

• 1. Sentence Structure  

  Accuracy of grammar may be more important than an email. Most of the time, complete sentence are expected

• 2. Style

  Language use may be personal. For example, first and second person pronouns may be frequently used. May not be as formal as official letter writing.

• 3. Allowed to use contractions

  Example : he’s, she’s, haven’t, they’re

• 4. Altough the tone of your letter is informal, please take note

   •Do not use offensive language

   • Use gramatically correct sentences

Jenis-jenis Personal Letter Person to someone

• 1. character reference letter atau surat referensi, dikirim oleh seseorang

• 2. Condolence letter atau surat yang dikirimkan oleh sebuah lembaga atas tujuan bela sungkawa

• 3. Friendly letter merupakan surat yang dikirimkan untuk ajakan mengikuti ajang persahabatan

• 4. Goodbye letter atau surat perpisahan yang dikirim oleh rekan kerja

• 5. Love letter atau surat cinta biasanya dikirimkan untuk seseorang yang dicintai/kekasih

• 6. Letter of apology yaitu surat yang dikirim sebagai permintaan maaf.

• 7. Letter of complaint; surat yang dikirim untuk melakukan aksi protes atas perbuatan yang tidak menyenangkan.

Dear Ben,

Thanks for your letter. It was great to hear from you!

I am happy to know you have chosen for your future profession. I’m also interested in foreign languages and cultures. And i hope to visit the USA next summer.

As for me, I’ve already made up my mind to become a teacher of foreign languages. I like to work with children. They make me feel happy.

I have already been to Italy and France. But I recommend you to visit Rusia first for there are many place of interest. If you travelled to Rusia, I would be your guide then.
